Digital Citizenship

Digital citizenship is important information that students should know as many of them use technology as part of their learning. Students should understand what is happening on the internet and what they should be aware of. Digital citizenship includes many things, and I will be discussion some of the important aspects.

It is important for students to understand the concept of digital footprint. This means whatever they post online is never really deleted. They have left a "footprint" in the digital world so it is important to be aware of what you post on the internet.

How you act is another important aspect. Some people may act differently behind the screen because they think nobody can see them. It is important to respect others whether it is in real life or in the digital world. As people are behind the screen and others can't actually see their faces, people easily act disrespectful to others, which could lead to cyber bullying. Some may not even be aware of that. Students should understand that whatever they say online could stay there forever as they left a digital footprint.

Communication and privacy are also important. Students should know that their personal information should never be revealed online. Not only are those private information, it could also affect their safety. They should never share private information online whether it is their personal information, addresses, passwords, etc. Students should also be aware of who they are talking to, making sure it is actually safe to talk to that person and never talk to strangers. You never know what their intentions are!

Lastly, I would like to mention being responsible in the digital world. That includes being aware of what you say and do as you leave digital footprints. Also, be aware of the information you retrieve online. Are they trustworthy information and are they legal. Students would not want to be doing illegal activities online, not only it leaves a digital footprint, it could also have side affects in their future.
